This is a brand new wedding venue that has decided to fly in the face of coronavirus and prepare for opening in February 2021 anyway. Edenwood Place doesn't like to do things in the usual way, and opening in a pandemic is just the beginning of what we are sure will be a wild and crazy journey for us as we venture into the beautiful word of weddings. It is a totally unique venue, unlike anything currently offered here in Kent, and is nestled in the Bluebell Hill area between Maidstone and Rochester. Even on a cloudy autumn day miles of the undulating Kentish landscape are visible from the courtyard and provide a perfect backdrop for a drama filled shoot. </p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; "><img src="../blogimages/983214065/1609946840.jpg" style="width: 1346px;"><br></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; ">The venue is industrial chic meets botanical; wild foliage walls stacked high with prosecco glasses sit alongside rusted (yes actual rust!) statement walls handcrafted by the resident scientist turned events manager. The space is large and feels somewhat like an art exhibition, with something new and exciting to explore around every corner. New areas and design elements are springing up weekly, as the venue is now accelerating towards the finishing stages and the grand opening in January 2021. We are aware the world needs weddings, possibly now more than ever, and we are so excited to be entering into this industry.<o:p></o:p><img src="../blogimages/983214065/1609946862.jpg" style="width: 1346px;"></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; ">Theme and inspiration: For the shoot we wanted to provide a sense of escapism that allowed us to move away from 2020 back in time 100 years to a more glamorous era. The roaring 20s was a period of social and artistic dynamism and we wanted to capture this in the shoot and bring the many different design aspects of the venue to life. The sophistication and elegance that the 1920s brought to the table contrasted beautifully against the walls dripping with rust and the wild foliage background, as well as the atmospheric grey clouds. Autumn has very much settled in Kent and the landscape is all rusty oranges and blue-grey clouds, so we wanted to introduce this colour palette into the shoot. The flowers were crafted to include this autumnal palette and were showcased in large dramatic stone vases. </p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; "><img src="../blogimages/983214065/1609946886.jpg" style="width: 1346px;"><br></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; ">The props also followed this colour scheme and we picked a variety of bold and colourful vintage pieces, as well as the dramatic geometric arch. The crockery and glassware also followed this 1920s theme and we used vintage crystal champagne saucers to convey a real sense of decadence. The flowers on the table incorporated moss to give it a wild feel that complimented the colours in the crockery beautifully. The cake tied the tablescape together, it was a nod to the industrial aspects of the venue and the era, whilst also including decadent rich dark colours and gold leaf.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; "><img src="../blogimages/983214065/1609946927.jpg" style="width: 1346px;"></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; ">Styling: We wanted to bring back a sense of more is more so we went full-on with everything as, if you can't be this extra on your wedding day then when can you? Make-up was bold and powerful and the hair inspiration was 20s flapper-girl, as we channelled the energy and magnetism of stars like Zelda Fitzgerald. We included a bold dark red lip to channel some Louise Brooks-esque sultriness. The dress also took inspiration from this era and the model wore the forever timeless Anya LUXE gown, a full sequin dress that was beautifully figure hugging and gave that real sense of - 'I have arrived'. Our female model wore this alongside a handmade beaded head piece that took inspiration from the dramatic crystal headpieces worn by the likes of Greta Garbo and other greats of this era. It was crafted as a piece to be worn on the side of the hair to accentuate the beautiful set waves up-do. The veil completed the look, it was beautifully handcrafted to include elegant lace details and went on for days, what's not to love. </p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; "><img src="../blogimages/983214065/1609946954.jpg" style="width: 1346px;"><br></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; ">As we neared the end of the day there was a sneaky outfit change (in true 20s diva style) and our female model donned a floaty, starry number that was perfect for dancing on the courtyard as the sun began to set. The suit took inspiration from Peaky Blinders, the male model wore a three piece tweed tailored suit with a button-hole crafted from rust coloured flowers that perfectly complemented the tones of the suit. We completed the look with a bow tie to add some 1920s sophistication, alongside a pipe and flat cap, so the only thing we were missing was a dramatic walk past an angle grinder or two really. <o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; "><img src="../blogimages/983214065/1609946972.jpg" style="width: 1346px;"></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; "><img src="../blogimages/983214065/1609946986.jpg" style="width: 1346px;"><br></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; ">Other bits of info: This was our first shoot and we loved every minute of it. We did it on a Sunday so we had the whole day to shoot and swap stories of the trials and tribulations of 2020 but also the excitement that we held for the year ahead. The models are close friends of mine and they were supposed to be getting married in August 2020 and like so many of us have postponed to next year. This shoot was not only an opportunity for us to showcase our venue with the help of so many amazing suppliers but also, it gave Hollie and David the opportunity to celebrate their love and so the day was very emotionally-charged for lots of reasons!
